Hurricane Milton Update

Event Cancelation Notice

As of 12:30 PM on 10/9/2024

After speaking with local authorities and gathering the latest information on Hurricane Milton, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2024 Amelia Island Half Marathon.  The event will not be rescheduled and we will return in October, 2025.

We remain hopeful for minimal impact on Amelia Island, but the outlook for other parts of Florida is concerning. Our production team has evacuated Tampa and likely cannot return to assess damage until the weekend. Amelia Island officials and first responders are engaged in emergency planning and may be needed for storm relief. We feel it would be irresponsible to divert our staff and partners’ time and focus that may be needed for their families and the community.

To our runners, partners, staff and friends who are preparing for Hurricane Milton’s impact, you are in our thoughts and we are hoping you and your loved ones remain safe in the coming days. Our hearts go out to many of you who are still recovering from the effects of Hurricane Helene.  We understand your focus right now is your family, your home and your community.

To those in areas not expecting to be impacted by Hurricane Milton, please join us in offering your support where possible.

This is not the news we wanted to deliver.  Many of you have been training for this event for months.  We were excited to celebrate with you at the finish line.  That celebration will have to wait until next year’s Amelia Island Half Marathon, but we will be right there with you when it happens.  Until then, please stay safe!

Cancelation Process:

You have two options: receive race credit OR complete the race virtually. As a reminder, we offer a Worry Free Registration policy, which you can review here

Hurricane Milton Update

As of 10:45 AM on 10/8/2024

As many of you know, Hurricane Milton is expected to make landfall in Florida tomorrow.  We have been closely monitoring the situation in collaboration with local and state authorities, as well as our event partners.  While it is too early to know the impact the storm will have in Amelia Island, many of the individuals involved in producing this event are already being impacted.  Our main production team lives in the Tampa Bay area and has already evacuated their homes with their families.  Amelia Island first responders may be called to assist in the inevitable relief efforts throughout Florida.

There is a high likelihood that the 2024 Amelia Island Half Marathon will be altered or canceled.  Even if the race is able to take place, areas of the course may need to be altered due to flooding.  A final decision, which will be made in conjunction with local authorities and partners, will be made as soon as possible.  The priority will continue to be your safety and the safety of all of the people necessary to produce a safe event.

Deferral Fee Waived:

For those who are already interested in alternatives, we have reopened the deferral form and waived the deferral fee.  If you would like to go ahead and defer your registration, you can do so here. You will immediately receive credit for the amount you paid for your registration (minus handling fees) that you can use for next year’s Amelia Island Half Marathon or any other Capstone Race, including the PNC Bank Charleston Half Marathon in January and the Myrtle Beach Marathon in March, Your credit will expire in one year.

Cancelation Process:

Should the race be canceled, you will not have to do anything. You will automatically receive credit for the amount you paid (minus handling fees) that you can use for next year’s Amelia Island Half Marathon or any other Capstone Race. Your credit will expire in one year.

If race credit is awarded, we will provide instructions on how to use your credit.

If you purchased iTab engraving and/or pre-ordered your race pictures, you will receive a refund for the amount you paid on the original card.

In addition, should the race be canceled, any proceeds from the 2024 Amelia Island Half Marathon will be donated to hurricane relief efforts in Florida.

We will provide another update via email, Amelia Island Half Marathon website, and social media as soon as more information is available, and no later than end of day Thursday, 10/10. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we gather information and make the best decision for everyone involved.
