Tar Heel Tug of War Team Challenge
April 16th - April 25th
The Tar Heel Tug of War Team Challenge is not a normal tug of war game. For starters there’s no rope. In this virtual competition you’ll have 10 days to log your miles, collectively earn points, score some epic swag and compete to win the GRAND PRIZE, including:
- Tar Heel Cash Bag for your university fund of choice,
- 10 FREE RACE entries into the 2022 Tar Heel 10 Miler
- FREE Capstone racing for the entire year of 2022 for the Team Captain
- An Autographed Mack Brown Football
- Two Diamonds Direct Gift Card – One $500 & One $250

Step 1: Create or Join A Team
Strength is in numbers and it’s time to flex your social circle. Round up your squad, family, or office mates and build your dream team to better your odds for victory! Recruit your teammates, get them to sign up online, and prepare for battle. We will display all team names and sizes throughout the duration of the recruitment process, so you can see where your team stacks up. This is not a solo race, you’ll need at least 2 members in your team to qualify for the grand prizes.
Step 2: Compete For A Cause
Team Captains will have the option to select their fund of choice they would like to fight for and who they would like to award the prize money to, should they win. There are a variety of funds, including: The Red, White, and Carolina Blue Challenge Fund for Military Families, UNC COVID-19 Research Accelerator Fund, UNC Athletics’ Carolina Victory Fund, Carolina Student Impact Fund and many more.
We’ve primed the pot with a starting point of $500! A portion of proceeds from every new registration will be added to the Tar Heel Cash Bag.
Step 3: Earn Points By Getting Active
You will have 10 days to log your daily miles. The goal is simple. Get up, get out, and contribute to your team by logging any distance each day! You’ll earn one point for your daily logged mileage regardless of distance you run, ride, or walk. The competition begins Friday, April 16th and will conclude on Sunday, April 25th. Each individual team member is responsible for logging their own daily miles. See below for scoring information.
Step 4: Win!
Scoring is simple. We will take the average of team size and percent of activity logged. Example: There are 100 team members and 75% log some miles on day 1. Your team scores 87.5 points for that day.
All team points will update daily so you can see where your team’s points stack up to the competition. At the end of the challenge we’ll add up each teams points and the team with the most points wins the grand prize:

In the event of a tie, a winner will be determined by whichever team has the most miles logged.
