2021 Tar Heel 10 Miler Going Virtual Due to COVID-19

The 2021 Tar Heel 10-Miler Cancellation Statement Regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) – Friday, February 19, 2021

Message for our runners that registered before February 19.

This may or may not come as a surprise to many. In light of the continuing developments surrounding COVID-19 we have determined that the 2021 Tar Heel 10 Miler & 4 Mile Run is unsafe to host in person and has been converted to a virtual race.

But not just any virtual race. Last year, we were unable to provide you with any race experience at all due to the rapid spread of COVID-19. Although we find ourselves in a similar place almost a year later, we are optimistic that we can bring you a virtual race experience unlike any other. An experience that will keep you active, show off your Tar Heel Pride, and support the university you love!

Your registration has automatically been transferred into the Classic Virtual Tar Heel 10 Miler or 4 Mile Run. All Double Down participants have been transferred to the Classic Tar Heel 10 Miler distance. You can stay in our classic virtual race and no action is needed. Or, join the new Tar Heel Tug of War Team Challenge (no additional charge) to compete in a game like no other while raising money for the University of Chapel Hill and trying to win FREE race entries.

Any participant that paid more than the new virtual race ($25) has received the difference in race credit that will be active for ONE YEAR. Your race credit
can be used to enhance your virtual running experience now by adding on the NEW Swag Bag ($15) – includes the 2021 Finisher Medal, hat & cinch bag – and Shipping ($10) for your convenience. Or, you can save the credit to apply to a future Capstone Race.

Not interested in any of the options? We understand. We’ve waived the deferral fee, so you can defer your registration for the remainder of your race credit to use on a future Capstone Race.

If you wish to switch to the Tar Heel Tug of War Team Challenge, enhance your virtual running experience or defer your registration for race credit, please click here to complete the form to let us know. The deadline for changes is Monday, March 1 at 11:59 PM.

Have Questions? Check below for answers.

Can I receive a refund instead of race credit?

No, our refund policy still stands.

Why can't I get a refund?

Your entry fee supports the costs associated with producing the race. Those costs are incurred over the weeks and months leading up to the race. In other words, we’ve spent your money on all of the things that go into producing the 2020 Tar Heel 10 Miler, including your shirts and medals that you will still be able to receive at future date and location. That being said, we cannot refund you money that has already been spent.

Don't you have to refund my fee since the race isn't taking place?

No, when all runners registered, each individual acknowledged and agreed to the following:

“Fee Refunds: I understand that all fees and associated costs (including optional product purchases, spectator tickets, and donations), paid in registration for this Event are not refundable for any reason under any circumstances, including but not limited to injury, a scheduling conflict, and/or event cancellation.”

How is race credit different from a refund?

Race credit is connected to your email address that was used when you registered. This credit can be used towards any of our races within our portfolio.

Will you mail out shirts and medals?

Yes, we will mail out swag purchases to any participant that adds on Shipping ($10) to their order.
