What does it mean that there’s no in-person race for 2021?

The City of Charleston, City of North Charleston and the entire Charleston Marathon team want you to stay well. It’s been determined that hosting large-scale events, particularly our size, will not be permitted due to COVID-19 restrictions this January. In an effort to potentially postpone the race, we are unable to reach an agreement with city officials to secure a later date to host the event. As a result, we have made the decision to operate as a virtual race for 2021.

What does it mean that the 2021 Charleston Marathon is now a virtual event?

A virtual race gives you the rush of the finish line and swag sweeter than tea.. without the worry of travel! Run on your own time and where YOU want. All your swag will be shipped direct to your porch within the U.S. so all you need to worry about is getting through your training plan.

How do I check if I'm registered?

If you are unsure if you are registered, we ask that you first search your inbox for an email titled “Confirmation: Registration for the 2021 Charleston Marathon”. If you do not find the email, please go to the “Register” tab and select the “View Participants” link. You will be able to search for your last name and you should show up if you are registered. You need to be signed in to access this information. You must be signed in to see registration.

If you do not have a confirmation email or do not see your name in the registration file, please contact us at info@charlestonmarathon.com with your name, email address and distance.

      • Run the 2021 Charleston Marathon: Virtual Edition. You don’t need to do anything – you’re already registered! Check our Conversion to Virtual page for all the details on what you’ll receive.
      • Not interested in the virtual race? That’s ruff, but we understand. While we’re not offering refunds, thanks to Worry Free Registration, you can request your registration fee back in the form of race credit. Please complete the Race Credit Request form by Friday, October 9 at 11:59 PM.

I want to run the virtual race and was registered BEFORE the conversion to virtual on October 2, 2020.

That’s great – welcome to the big dogs! You don’t need to do anything except focus on your run. More details will be sent to you over the coming weeks. Check our Conversion to Virtual page for all the details on what you’ll receive.

I do NOT want to run the virtual race and was registered BEFORE the conversion to virtual on October 2, 2020.

That’s ruff, but we understand. While we’re not offering refunds, thanks to Worry Free Registration, you can request your registration fee back in the form of race credit. Please complete the Race Credit Request form by Friday, October 9 at 11:59 PM.

What is race credit?

Race credit can be used towards any of our Capstone Races events and does not have an expiration date. The credit will be applied to the email address you used to register for the 2021 Charleston Marathon. If you still have credit left over, you can put that towards any other race.

How do I use my race credit?

To use your race credit, go to the registration page of any Capstone Race. When registering, be sure to use the same email address you used when registering for the 2021 Charleston Marathon. The credit will automatically be applied to your total at checkout.

Will I receive a refund for my iTab engraving purchase?

Yes, participants that paid for iTab engraving will receive a refund for the purchase price.

Why is there a charge for the Youth Marathon?

Typically, the Youth Marathon has been free of charge. However, all distances for the virtual race will include the same participants entitlements including shipped swag. Therefore all distances of the virtual race will be priced the same.

What swag will I receive for the virtual race?

Finish your virtual race in style with the downloadable bib and commemorate your achievement with an upgraded exclusive light-weight finisher hoodie, blinged out bottle opener finisher medal, and downloadable finisher certificate.

How will I receive my swag?

We’re making it easy for you! Swag will be sent directly to your porch within the U.S. so you don’t have to worry about a thing. You expect to receive your swag by the end of January 2021.

How do I choose my race distance?

Choose between the Marathon, Half Marathon, 5k or Youth Marathon (1 Mile). There’s no need to select a distance when registering, but you will need to select a distance when you submit your results.

How can I share my results?

We can’t wait to see your accomplishments! Closer to race week, we will have a page on our website where you will be able to share your distance and results. We will share more details in the coming weeks.

What charity is the 2021 Charleston Marathon working with?

The Charleston Marathon® is proud to continue its longstanding support of Engaging Creative Minds!

The mission of Engaging Creative Minds (ECM) is to inspire the creative and innovative potential of all students to achieve academically and become imaginative, adaptable, and productive adults resulting in stronger communities and an increasingly competitive South Carolina workforce.

This year is important, more than ever, to help our community and the children within it. You can add a donation of any amount to support ECM on your registration form.

Will I still qualify for the 2021 Bless Your Heart Bling?

If you’re also registered for the 2021 Myrtle Beach Marathon, yes! Running the 2021 Charleston Marathon: Virtual Edition still qualifies you. If you run the in-person Myrtle Beach Marathon, you will pick up in person. If you run the Myrtle Beach Marathon virtual 10k and not the in-person Myrtle Beach Marathon, it will be sent to you.

Can I receive a refund instead?

No, our refund policy is still in effect. When all runners registered, each individual acknowledged and agreed to the following:

“Fee Refunds: I understand that all fees and associated costs (including optional product purchases, spectator tickets, and donations), paid in registration for this Event are not refundable for any reason under any circumstances, including but not limited to injury, a scheduling conflict, and/or event cancellation.”

We have worked hard to provide Worry Free Registration, giving us the opportunity to supply race credit to those registered before the conversion to virtual race on October 2, 2020 so that our runners can look forward to the start line of their choice.
