2021 Bay to Breakers Race Updates

Get Ready to Run Wild in 2021!

The Bay to Breakers race is back for another year, baby! Along with our usual antics, the 2021 Bay to Breakers live event will see some updates. For starters the stars have aligned and we’re officially Leo’s with our new race date on August 22, 2021. We’ve also implemented Worry Free Registration, will be hosting a Virtual 12k Option, and will be donating a portion of proceeds to California Wildfire Relief Fund.

Check out all the updates we’ve made this year – we bet you’ll like them as much as we like you!

  • A registration for the 2021 Bay to Breakers guarantees a race experience for you! Should the 2021 race be forced to cancel due to COVID-19, all of our 2021 registrants will have the option to opt for their entire registration fee back in the form of race credit or to continue your run in our Virtual 12k. Race credit earned due to a COVID-19 cancellation will not expire and can be applied to any Capstone Race.
  • We’re all hoping to produce the 2021 race on August 22, 2021. However, we’ve waived our normal deferral fee for anyone who wishes to wait another year.
  • Our “No Refund” and “No Transfer” policies will still be in effect for this race.

While we’d love to see all of your incredible costumes in-person, we understand some folks have come to love the conveniences that accompany virtual life. You’ll now have the option to bring the WILD to you with our Virtual 12k.

Don’t worry though! We’ll still be able to see your epic finishes and costumes virtually. All Virtual 12k participants will be able to upload results and photos to show off their run on August 22, 2021!

All virtual runners will receive a bib via email that can be downloaded to represent Bay to Breakers while they run. Virtual runners will also receive the shirt and medal in the mail after August 22, 2021. More details about shipping and swag will be available closer to race day.

This year our beloved state of California is battling some of the worst wildfires reported in history. The Bay to Breakers tradition was built from hardship within the Bay Area in an effort to bring the community together. Throughout the decades Bay to Breakers has served as a celebration of the human spirit and we hope to continue the celebration and provide our support where possible.

We are proud to be donating a portion of proceeds to the California Wildfire Relief Fund. We encourage all of you, if able, to donate along with us in support of their efforts. All donations to this fund will support relief and recovery efforts for Californians affected by the wildfires.

Is the virtual race required?

No, the virtual race will be an optional distance for all of our participants. We are still planning to host the Bay to Breakers live 12k Runners, Breakers Bonus & Centipede Run.

In the event of a race cancellation due to COVID-19, all of our runners will be able to opt for race credit or to continue their journey virtually.

What do I get for running the virtual race?

All virtual runners will receive a bib via email to wear during their run and their race shirt and the finisher medal will be mailed out after the race.

Can I run both the live 12k Runner & the Virtual Run?

No, the virtual race option is to replace the live 12k Runner distance. They will take place on the same day and will receive the same swag items.

If you would like to change from the live event to the Virtual 12k option – or vice versa – you can do so before August 1, 2021. Visit BaytoBreakers.com/change to complete the change.

Can I donate to California Wildfire Relief Fund?

Yes, during your registration you will have the option to contribute a set amount to the California Wildfire Relief Fund. We appreciate your donation. Continue to help us spread the love this year. ❤️
